Archaeology is not immune…
Unfortunately, scientists and researchers, archaeologist’s included, are subject to attempts by employers, politicians, and funders who only have an interest in research to the extent it supports their position.
A professor at one of Scotland’s leading universities told me there is a line in academia that one knows you do not cross without jeopardising your career as an academic. He told me this rather casually as if he had long ago given up the possibility of testing that line. Of course, like most others, academics have lives to live, families to support, and their own desire for funded projects all of which means they are caught in the middle of doing what they know is relight and massaging the whims of those who control their careers.
Any studies on censorship of archaeologists in the academic world?
